I am trying to tone down

Yes, i know i have been extremely paranoid in my last couple of posts. For that I apologize, from the bottom of my heart. So in response i am trying to stop sounding so paranoid. But this story hits FAR too close to home for me to take lightly:

Firefighters taking new role as anti-terrorist eyes of the US government

"Firefighters in major U.S. cities are being trained to take on a new role as lookouts for terrorism, raising concerns of eroding their standing as trusted American icons and infringing on people's privacy.
Unlike police, firefighters and emergency medical personnel need no warrants to enter hundreds of thousands of homes and buildings each year, which puts them in position to spot behavior that could indicate terror activity or planning.
There are fears, however, that they could lose the faith of a skeptical public by becoming the eyes of the government, looking for suspicious items like building blueprints or bomb-making manuals or materials."

And the paragraph that caught my eye:

"The Homeland Security Department is testing a program with the New York City fire department to share intelligence information so firefighters are better prepared when they respond to emergency calls. Homeland Security also trains the New York City fire service how to identify material or behavior that may indicate terrorist activities. If it is successful, the government intends to expand the program to other major metropolitan areas. As part of the program, which started last December, Homeland Security gave secret clearances to nine New York fire chiefs, according to reports obtained by The Associated Press"

the entire article may be read here : http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/11/24/america/NA-GEN-US-Firefighters-Terrorists.php?page=1

Now see here, I appreciate what our brave men and women in uniform are doing for us, but i just don't want to see them becoming goverment watchdogs is all.

for fear of sounding paranoid, i have no more to say.

Silence is never golden....

I agree...this may just cross the line. I think that firefighters and emergency medical personnel are busy enough without any extra duties. On top of that, I believe there is a deeper ethical problem here. It seems as if DHS will try anything to skirt the law. The law is the law for a reason. I do believe that stopping terrorists before they strike is a top priority for our government. Just as long as they stay inside the scope of the law and don't try to destroy any of my liberties and privacy in that pursuit. It is a tricky question though. I don't believe that terrorists are actively targeting Americans inside America as much as the fear mongers and media would have us believe. But all the fear mongering and media cocksucking is the exact tool that they use to try and lul us into alowing them to do these things without much public outcry. All these problems with terrorists can be solved out of country, diplomatically...and not in my livingroom. Greed is a powerful thing though. It is funny, with how easy these things can be solved away from our shores, that they present oppressive tactics like these as our only choice...it's funny that they don't see these other solutions as an easier way. It's funny that they'd rather invade my house instead of pulling their lips from the money tit of the middle east...pitiful...

Just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after you...

exactly! issue is they try to make it seem as if its "routine". This and the warrantless gun searches in Boston Mass. just goes to show how far we have fallen.

Well...as the 'routine' becomes increasingly less routine we need to keep our eyes open. This all feels like we are on the cusp of something incredibly important. It's as if we can smell the beast at our shores. We need a collective consiousness. See, most of the public still believes what they see on tv. There is nothing radical happening in the media. People seem so stuck in their ways that it seems extremely difficult to try and explain anything to anyone. I blame that on the pundits. The tv and radio pundits are single handedly responsible for hardning people's shells. They destroyed the ability to reason with people...they destroyed the people's ability to see fopr themselves...

Rush, Hanity, Olbermann...sick ego assholes...I think they enjoy destroying America. It gets their dicks hard at night. If they didn't have that to get them off they'd be poor little flacid men....
